Prof. Feuerstein and his staff will conduct comprehensive workshops to introduce educators, psychologists and other specialists to the theory and practice of Structural Cognitive Modifiability (SCM) and Mediated Learning Experience (MLE), developed by Prof. Reuven Feuerstein, and to train a cadre of experienced professionals in the use of dynamic assessment and Instrumental Enrichment intervention for their students’ or clients’ benefit.  This theory states that learning ability can be significantly enhanced, regardless of age, nature, cause or severity of condition.  Clinical observations over decades have shown that the development of thinking processes is highly dependent on the nature and quality of the interaction within which selected stimuli are mediated by parents, educators, etc.  All workshops incorporate an introduction or review of the theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience

Mediated Learning Experience for Parents                                      9-12 July

This introductory workshop is intended for those parents who wish to learn about the basic principles of the theory of structural cognitive modifiability and mediated learning experience and their applied systems.  An overview of the criteria of mediation, deficient cognitive functions will be given together with the illustration of how these theoretical tools can be used in assessment and intervention with special needs children.  Workshops on how to mediate to a child. Live demonstration of the Learning Potential Assessment Device. Duration: 16 hours (one evening and three mornings).

MLE Trainers for Parents’ Groups (New) 9-14 July

This new course is offered to professionals who have already received the IE-Trainers-1 diploma and who would like to conduct Mediated Learning Experience seminars with parents. The course includes the following topics: Detailed analysis of the MLE theory and its applied systems; What parents should know about the milestones of child development; MLE interactions with children of different ages; MLE and the sensory-motor development of the child; MLE and speech development of the child; MLE and the child’s problem solving behavior; MLE in the child’s everyday activities; Didactics of teaching the MLE approach to parents.

Learning Propensity Assessment Device (LPAD)

The LPAD is a system of dynamic assessment of cognitive modifiability, structured as a mediational interaction.  Its primary goal is to produce a sample of change in the cognitive structure of the individual to serve as an indicator of the individual’s learning potential and point out the optimal modes of necessary intervention.  LPAD can be applied as an individual clinical technique and with groups of children, adolescents and adults with diverse levels of functioning and differing etiological conditions.

LPAD I                                                                                          9-20 July

Focusing on individual clinical assessment, this workshop will comprise:

a. Intensive instruction in LPAD; the use of instruments and interpretation of results; b. Demonstration and practice in LPAD testing, emphasizing the cognitive processes involved, quality of evaluator-child interaction and the derivation of recommendations from the analysis of results. Applicants are encouraged to read in advance the theoretical material available on the ICELP website: www.icelp.org (Research – Basic Theory – LPAD)

LPAD II - Veterans                                                                         9-20  July

Admission to this workshop is limited to those previously trained in LPAD-1.  Applications should be sent to Prof. Feuerstein with letters of recommendation and relevant documentation from an authorized trainer as to previous certification and recognized LPAD supervision of adequate practical experience.  Topics included in this workshop:  Advanced theory of mediation for dynamic assessment; Higher level LPAD instruments; Principles and techniques of group assessment; Analysis of profiles of modifiability; practical experience in individual assessment and report writing.

LPAD for Young Children (LPAD-B)                                                  9-20  July

Admission to this workshop is limited to those previously trained in LPAD-1.  The LPAD-B training model includes the principles and techniques of using a new battery of tasks intended for pre-school children or children with severe developmental delay. Currently the battery which is still under construction, includes the following sub-tests: Part-Whole; Functional Part-Whole; Concept Formation; Progressions; Absurdities; Define the Problem; Puzzles; Spatial Orientation; Associative Function Memory; Part-Whole Associative Recall; Visual Transport; Picture Assembly; Reversal Test; Labyrinth; Segregation of Lines; Organization of Dots; Complex Figure.

.

LPAD Group Assessment                                                                17-20  July

Admission to this workshop is limited to those previously trained in LPAD-1. Group LPAD  assessment is intended for large groups of learners such as whole school classes, groups of adults and others. The group LPAD produces results suitable for analysis in terms of both individual modifiability and group modifiability profile.  An additional advantage of the group assessment is that it is closer to real-life class situations (as compared to one-to-one assessments).  The course will include a study of the group-version battery of LPAD tools,  analysis of the results at an individual and a group level, report-writing, and individual and group recommendations. The group LPAD battery includes: Organization of Dots, Raven Matrices, Set Variations, Trimodal Analogies, Complex Figure, Positional Learning, Lahi, Numerical Progressions, Organizer, RSDT.

Instrumental Enrichment  (IE)

IE is an intervention program designed to modify the cognitive structure of students in classrooms and individually with diverse populations ranging from retarded performers to gifted underachievers and adult populations in industrial settings and continuing education.  The program aims at correcting deficient cognitive functions and enhancing the individual’s capacity to learn more effectively from direct exposure in formal as well as informal learning situations.

IE Level I - Beginners                                                                                     9-20  July

Teacher as a mediator; Overview of the IE program; Small group practice in lesson planning for diverse populations. Comprehensive instruction in the material and didactics of Organization of Dots; Comparisons;  Analytic Perception; Orientation in Space I & II; Illustrations; Categorization. Applicants are encouraged to read in advance the theoretical material available on the ICELP website: www.icelp.org (Research – Basic theory – IE).

IE Level II – Advanced                                                                   9-20  July

Only teachers with previous training in first level instruments may participate.

Applied aspects of MLE with diverse populations; Small group practice in lesson planning for diverse populations and application of principles of IE to various academic subjects. Comprehensive instruction in the material and didactics of 7 additional instruments: Family Relations; Temporal Relations; Representational Stencil Design ; Instructions; Numerical Progressions; Syllogisms; Transitive Relations

IE Level III - Trainers I                                                                            9-20  July
